Error when trying to install drivers for GeForce 3Ti200

Hi Guys,
I get this error when trying to install the Nvidia drivers :-

Error: Unable to find the system utility 'ld'; Please make sure you have the package 'binutils' installed. If you do have binutils installed, then please check that 'ld' is in your PATH.

I've just downloaded binutils 2.14, But also GCC 3.3
Can I install both or will GCC have the binutils tools? I would like GCC for the C compiler.

That is IF I can install them being such a newbie (and an old git ;) )

Sorry for being a newb:cry:

Thanks in advance:)

I strongly suggest you use urpmi to install GCC and binutils (which are 2 seperate packages). It'll resolve the plethora of dependencies these will have, as well as get your system all setup proper for you easily.

It's by far the easiest way for a newbie to go.

I'd do it, and I'm probably just beyond the 'newbie' stage ;)

Cool

Thanks MasterC ;)

What is urpmi?

Can you walk me through it?

[edit]

OK I found out what it is :-
Code:

[root@localhost mike]# urpmi
urpmi version 4.2

How do I use it to install GCC and binutils?

Thanks

And this is the error when I try to install GCC :-

Code:

[root@localhost gcc-3.3]# ./configure
Configuring for a i686-pc-linux-gnuoldld host.
Created "Makefile" in /usr/local/files/gcc-3.3 using "mt-frag"
./configure: line 8: cc: command not found
*** The command 'cc -o conftest -g  conftest.c' failed.
*** You must set the environment variable CC to a working compiler.

Yeah, you definitely don't wanna configure that thing...

urpmi gcc

That'll do the trick ;)

Walk away and get some lunch, it'll be a while...

;)

Cool
