Error when changing User permissions

Hi, I am using KDE 3.3.0 and was trying to add myself to some groups using the KUser tool under the System Menu. When I clicked appli I recieved an error:

Can't create backup file for /etc/gshadow/

Does that mean anything? Did my setttings save?

Some of the groups I was trying to add myself to were video, ftp, and what not.

Not sure if the setting were saved -- type 'id' and see if you got added to the groups (note, you need to start a fresh login session for changes to take effect). BTW, you'll probably find it a bit simpler to modify the /etc/group file by hand to add yourself to groups.
