Error on booting after formating hard drive partition

Dear members,

I had my laptops installed on dual boot, windows 8 and linux mint. Yesterday, I wanted to uninstalled both of them and change it to windows 7 which I prefer. So firstly, I formatted hard drive partition that contain linux mint, and after that I restarted the windows. After that this problem occured. I can not boot into windows 8, and there were some weird message. It said

Error : no such partition
Grub rescue>

I don't know how to deal with this problems. I have windows 7 installer and linux mint live cd. If possible, I want to recover some data in my windows 8 installation, so what I want to do is booting into windows 8, recover my data, uninstall all operating systems, and install windows 7.

Thank you very much. Any help will be appreciated

Regards

Surya

Does your laptop have a rescue disc or partition that you can access (by pressing some key at boot time)?

What happened is, what you removed Linux Mint, you removed parts of the bootloader required to boot the laptop. What you need now is have access to a rescue disk or partition that can replace the GRUB bootloader with Windows' own.

Fortunately from what I recall, repairing the bootloader is a lot simpler than in versions prior to 7. When you can access the disc or partition, there will likely be an option for fixing boot problems. Try that one first.

My laptop doesn't have any rescue disk or something like that because I bought it without OS. I installed the windows 8 myself

Does It mean that I have to use my windows 8 cd for booting? Because I can't acces to my windows partition in my hard drive. When I booted from the hard drive there are always that message.

Yes, then you use your Windows 8 CD you bought, and follow the instructions in the link below. You use the Windows 8 CD to boot, and click Repair your computer when it becomes available.

First hit on Google, hope it helps: http://www.techspot.com/guides/630-windows-8-boot-fix/
