error no file system when installing ubuntu


hey all i`m new here.

well i`m also a linux virgin and dont really know my way about it.

i`ve downloaded ubuntu and tried to install it but it isnt worken...

well ive split ma hardrive into 2 bits so i could have my windows based os on one half and the other on ubuntu.

now each time i try to install it it comes up the error message: no file system
no roote file system is defined
please correct from the partritioning menu.

what shoul i do here ?

i don't understand this. if you split your hd and thus have free disk space for ubuntu then ubuntu should be able to detect this and set up a linux partition for you.

have you already installed ubuntu and are trying to boot after installation? then please boot from livecd and give the output of:

but how and why do u split ure hdd into 4 sections ?
