I'm installing Linux on a system and get the following error message: error reading header at 290816. The installation is from the cdrom. What does this mean or where can I find an index to error messages? Thanks.

What distrobution of Linux are you trying to install? Could it be possible that the CD is scratched or anything like that? If nothing else maybe try a different CD of the same distrobution or perhaps a different distrobution all together.
