Error message with CD writer

I've got a dual boot between Windows XP and Mandrake 9.2.

I can use my CD Writer under Windows using Nero 5.5 without any problem but I just tried using it for the first time with Mandrake and got the error message below:

Quote:

No support for ATAPI with cdrdao
You will not be able to use all your reading devices as copy sources since there is at least one not configured to use SCSI emulation and your system does not support ATAPI with cdrdao.

Solution: The best and recommended solution is to enable ide-scsi (SCSI emulation) for all writer devices. This way you won't have any problems.
My writer is an Acer 1610A 16x10x40

I've only been using Linux a few weeks. Does anyone have any ideas how to resolve this. I don't know how to do the recommended solution

Thanks.

You'll want to enable ide-scsi in lilo or grub. A search of LQ will probably explain this better than I can. That said, this is kind of a BS problem nowadays, as Mandrake should have set up your system better. Then again, they might have left it that way for people with older style systems that have it enabled and upgraded. If you search your available programs, you should be able to install a program that doesn't need this option, as most newer ones know how to play with atapi drives properly.

In fact, Linus recently posted his opinion of the ide-scsi situation, and it wasn't exactly a pleasant one. It's hack code, put in place to meet a temporary need, and never really properly addressed after that. That doesn't mean you might not have to use it, just that it should have been fixed by now.
