Hello,

I am trying to configure (reinstalled several times) Mandrake 9.1 xf86config and get the following message.

execve failed for /etc/X11/X (errno 13)

My issue is exactly the same, would appreciate help.

Here's what happens (the following is copied from my screen):

[root@localhost X11]# startx
Using authority file /root/.Xauthority
Writing authority file /root/.Xauthority
Using authority file /root/.Xauthority
Writing authority file /root/.Xauthority

execve failed for /etc/X11/X (errno 13)
giving up.
xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.

Hi,
I changed video card amd used new CDs
the problem is solved. I don't know which solved it.
