Error installing Ubuntu12.4

Installing Ubuntu 12.4 on older laptop with Win XP pro
Ubuntu is going on a 19.7 GB partition NTFS to duel boot Error says "This kernel requires the following features not present on the CPU: pae"
"Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU"

Do I need an older version of Ubuntu? Laptop has Intel Centrino Processor

First thing I would make sure is that you are booting a 32bit edition of Ubuntu

Ubuntu 12.04 kernel requires PAE - Physical Address Extension i.e. the processor can access RAM > 4 GB.
This may not be supported by your processor.
So you could try the older version 11.10.
