Unhappy Error Installing the "linux-headers-2.6.22-14-generic" update.

I'm a newbie running Ubuntu 7.10

I've been trying to install the Headers update but I keep getting the error below.

I've checked the folder which is throwing up the error but it does not exists. When i try to create it using "sudo mkdir dvb" in the folder I keep getting a "permission denied" error.

Code:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages will be upgraded:
  linux-headers-2.6.22-14-generic
1 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B/581kB of archives.
After unpacking 0B of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]? Y

Preparing to replace linux-headers-2.6.22-14-generic 2.6.22-14.51 (using .../linux-headers-2.6.22-14-generic_2.6.22-14.52_i386.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement linux-headers-2.6.22-14-generic ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/linux-headers-2.6.22-14-generic_2.6.22-14.52_i386.deb (--unpack):
unable to stat `./usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.22-14-generic/include/config/dvb' (which I was about to install): Permission denied
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)
Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/linux-headers-2.6.22-14-generic_2.6.22-14.52_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
I've tried to force the install but i get the same error.

Can anyone help?

thanks

Sol

Compiling on ubuntu is a pain.

I advise you to either stick to its binary packages,
or switch to a better distribution, for example gentoo.

They will teach you how to compile something.

If you want beauty though, use Gobolinux. Its design
beats gentoo easily (though Gentoo has a lot more users)
