error in using john i.e no password hashes loaded (see FAQ)


while i was trying to crack the password with aircrack-ng through john i am getting the following error

dheeraj@kali:~/Desktop$ sudo john password.txt
[sudo] password for dheeraj:
Using default input encoding: UTF-8
No password hashes loaded (see FAQ)

and also the john is also the latest version

can anyone please help me....

I used the big FAQ and found this page, which contains eight suggestions regarding this error.

As others have said, the FAQ covers that error. And based on your post, two things come to mind:
  • You're using Kali...which is for experienced Linux users, and then for security and pentesting.
  • WHY are you trying to 'crack' a wifi password?? The LQ Rules specifically state not to ask about hacking/cracking.
