error in exec of stage2 trying to execute /usr/bin/runinstall2

Help! I'm a newbie to Linux and I think I've screwed up royally. I had Mandrake 9.1 dual booting with Windows 2000 Server on my Dell Latitude C600. It was working just fine. So, of course, I decided to re-install just to see if I could do it again! Actually, I was impressed with Linux because it recognized hardware that Windows didn't and read my Windows data files beautifully. However, I realized that I hadn't left enough room for Windows so I reformatted (or so I thought) my hard drive and reinstalled Windows 2000 using 4.5 GB and left the remaining space for Linux. (only a 10 GB hard drive)

Now I keep getting an error in exec of stage2 trying to execute /usr/bin/runinstall2 message. I also got a Fatal Error in Stage 1 i/o error message. The install stops and says it can't go past that point and tells me to reboot.

Do I have a corrupt CD or is it because I really didn't wipe the original Linux installation clean? (that latter would be my guess)

Can anyone help? I don't have any manuals to go by so I thought I'd give this forum a shot.

Thanks in advance.

Cathy
