Error "Generic Error" While Deleting

Yes, I am in the root account. I get this error message when trying to simply delete a file from one of my mounted drives. The drive is hdb5, the first logical drive of an extended partition. I am confused because I figured that the root user could do anything.

Is the drive mounted r+w? even if you're root and the drive is mounted read only, you're still not allowed to delete from it.

Yeah man, the drive is actually a code 755.
