Error formatted new external usb HDD and now won't mount
I recently got a new external hdd and formatted it to clear off the preloaded software seagate loaded on it for windows users. Anyway it worked fine but I realized I didn't name the drive what I wanted and since the format didn't take long at all I figured I'd do it again and name it what i meant to.
This time a message popped up and said error formatting drive
I removed it and now when I connect it, it doesn't appear to mount at all.
I just right clicked the icon and selected format. I had the option to bring up the disk utility but I didn't want to create a new partition, just clear it.
Ok, then I would suggest you to open a console and try formatting by a command. I can help you with the command, if you tell me what's your device resource eg.(/dev/sda) and which filesystem you would like to make.
Well thats the thing too now that I think about it. my ubuntu is ext4 and thats what it will be used for mostly, but It will also get use with a ps3 quite frequently and a windows machine every now and then so would the most universal for that be fat32?
