ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.so
 

Hi i get the following eroor when trying to start mysql

/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql
/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql: /usr/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient.so.15: no version information available (required by /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql)
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)
You have new mail in /var/spool/mail/root

working on FC 5 and have installed apache,php and Mysql for snort

First question would be if the mysql server (mysqld) is running?

Did you search the internet? Google results for mysql error 2002

it is running but there are i guess two versions 5.0.18 and 5.0.22 installed.
i don know how remove 5.0.18 completely.

I get a different solution everytime.i don know whats going on.
