Some more info is necessary in order to help you, the more we know about the problem the better to help you to fix it, please could you tell which version of Ubuntu do you have installed? Your hardware specs too?

I newly installed the latest Ubuntu. When I tried to boot my Acer Aspire One I got error 2 repeatedly? What's wrong?

it's possible error 2 comes from a partitioning error?

Error 2 makes me think this is something with Grub... however as already said, we need more details on your setup, what you did, if it worked before, ...

I installed Ubuntu 12.4.1 from a bootable usb stick through the .iso file that I d/lowded.

I can try it from the USB stick /1 of the 2 options offered/ but I get Error 2 when trying to boot the Aspire One normally.

I checked this out, it's for an older version from 2008. Mine's Ubuntu 12.4.1

Your posts don't provide enough information for anyone to help. The error 2 for Grub means the selected disk does not exist. You have posted no information on how many hard drives/partitions you have. Neither have you indicated whether Ubuntu is the only operating system you have?

When you installed Ubuntu, did the installation complete? Did you get a pop-up message indicating it completed and instructing you to reboot? During the installation, where did you select to install the bootloader? Did you install it to the mbr of the drive on which you installed Ubuntu? Do you have other drives? Did you install it to the mbr of one of those drives? Did you install it to the / partition of Ubuntu? Did you create and install it to a separate /boot partition? or do you have a separate boot partition?

If you don't know the answers to the above, you can get it by booting your Ubuntu flash drive and selecting Try without installing. Open a web browser like firefox and go to the site below, read the instructions, download and run the bootinfoscript and post the results.txt file here:

I was pretty sure I've confused the partitioning. It has a 2007 version of Devian. I can't access it now either. When I try to boot my Acer Aspire One it doesn't boot through my HD & I get 'error 2' repeatedly. Now I can't even run the option to try Ubuntu through the stick before installing it, my laptop freezes when I click the option to try it.
I installed it and it couldn't reboot after restarting. It's only the original HD, option 1 in booting, plus the USB stick now.

Since you are not able to boot anything on that machine it would be very difficult to give further advice, outside of guessing. My guess is that you didn't install the Ubuntu Grub2 to the mbr and the error 2 you are getting is from your old Debian install which still used the old version of Grub. AFAIK, the error 2 is Grub Legacy only. It's probably looking for the Grub files and the drive/partition sequence is changes so...?

Can I try the install option again? In this case what's the correct path to follow? Maybe it could boot this time ....

The .iso version of Ubuntu suggested 2 partitions, 1 for Ubuntu plus 1 of 1 Gb for future changes. And I think I left one for the old files & Debian.

Also there's some application that can boot the computer & repair the partitions, so I can try it?

I also installed the bootinfoscript on the USB stick but it doesn't recognize it upon booting.

How did you create your bootable flash drive? Did you use unetbootin, pendrivelinux or some other software?

The above would be for creating the bootable flash drive persistence becasue 1GB is not much for future changes on a hard drive. From the information you posted, it is not clear that you actually installed Ubuntu to anything other than the flash drive. Did you boot the computer from the flash and go through the entire installation process for Ubuntu 12.04 which, when completed gave you a message indicating so and advising you to reboot?? Did you select the default option for the bootloader install?

If you have booted the flash drive and downloaded the bootinfoscript, you need to run it per the instructions on the site BEFORE you reboot. You are using a Live CD on a flash drive which is read only. When you reboot, anything you downloaded is gone.

Answers to the above questions should help to get someone to help you. If you can't answer them and you have no data on the Acer, try to reinstall.

I made the bootable flash drive from the .iso file that's suggested for my case - 712 MB.
I made some improvement, I reinstalled it a few times but got different errors & didn't get to the end of it.
So I reformatted the HD at the end with a new installation. It was going well when in the final stages the cursor's flashing as if it's still installing for a few hours b4 I saw it it's still the same & shut it. It's the last I did. It's even indicating th is is the most recent update. What's best from now on?

I started not getting 'error 2' when booting from the HD, now I get the cursor flashing on top of the screen.

No new replies this time .....

Any solution offered?
