I believe the root username is 'root' and the password is also 'root'. If it's not that, another good guesses would be 'passwd'.

cd always needed for mephis 3.3?

I just installed mephis for the first time and can't eject the this a cd only version or will it boot normally? How do I create my own user account? Is there a site for more free software like screen savers or other games?

You can install mephis on to your hardrive or run it from the cd. If I remember correctly you install on to your harddrive, you have to change the passwords for obvious reasons !
