eric3 and missing dependencies

Hello,

Please forgive my ignorance.

I am currently attempting to install eric3 (python IDE) on my Linux partition.

The thing is when I try and install certain rpms (like python-devel) it reports a conflict with another version of python. Even after uninstalling the rpm it still reports the error.

It also complains about missing so.2 files. What do these files do?

When I get back home I will edit the message to include the varying outputs.

It seems every time I successfully install one rpm, ten more are needed.

It's known as 'dependency hell', and was a major motivation behind package managers for distros. What distro are you using (it's worth adding it to your user info)? Most modern distributions have package managers that take care of all the necessary dependancies to avoid this kind of headache.
