Epson scanner not found by Xsane under Fedora 27


I figure the backend (driver?) is not downloaded, but do not know where I can find it (have tried epson.com

You could check at openprinting.org. It's not a conclusive resource by any means, but it's often helpful.

If you wish someone here to help you, it would help to post the model number of the printer.

You can try the programs 'sane-find-scanner' and 'scanimage' to try to find it.

I installed a XP-220 about a year ago (Mint) - epson had a driver package for it. Took a while to find, and every time I use it I find I have to adjust the scan density.
Never did get [x]sane to work, although I didn't pursue it.
