I've just installed Red hat 9.0 and I can't print on my Epson Color CX3200 All-In-One.
I've been to linuxprinting . org and downloaded the PPD files and placed them in the .../cups/ppd folder.
Can someone give me additional instruction on installation? I have tried running the CUPS program from the GUI desktop but I haven't been able to get a test-page printed.
Distribution: Currently Suse 11.1 but have RH7,8,9 / Fedora 7,8_64,9_64,&10_64

press the "start/menu" button ( red hat in th lower left corner)
system settings > printing
that should bring up " printer configuration " GUI
choose new
follow install wizard
/dev/usb/lp0 custom device
if it don't see it in the intial scan
as far as CUPS I tried to make it work several times
with no luck ( I use LPRng { I think thats what it's called }
That seems to be the route that I've taken to install this in the past the only difference being the /dev/USB/lp0. It defaults to /dev/lp0 on my system.
I have now tried both /dev/lp0 & /dev/usb/lp0 with no luck. It says 'no such device' when using /dev/usb/lp0.
I think I'll try another print queue program & see if that helps.

In section 13 it tells how to get the printer and scanner working for the 5200. I don't think it would be different for the 3200 since they both machines use the same printing/scanner engines. Just substitute Epson_CX3200 when you name it per the instructions.
I set up my CX5200 last night without a problem in about 15 minutes and I thought it seemed too easy to do and I for sure messed something up or something but it works great.
I found some install packages & driver files on that page but it turns out I'm missing needed compilers to install them. I thought I installed junk like that but I guess not. Also, when It ry to do 'Add/Remove Programs' it tells me I'm missing some files that are needed to now add the compiler components. Odd.
I think I'm going to do a fresh re-install & see if that changes anything. I'll most likely do a complete package install so I've got everything I might need. Hopefully it'll work after that...
I did download LPR but it wont let me install w/o the compiler that I'm missing.
I'm now worried about re-installing. I've only had this installed since Sunday. This is kind of my 'trial period' for RH9. If, within this week, I can get everything to work I'm going to wipe my XP partitions & go straight RH. I've been planning on wiping anyway so I'm not worried about it...
I'm just hoping that the new complete install will include everything that I might need. So far I've got everything that I'm accustomed to in XP except for the printer... that is the only thing holding me back so far.

ok looking over the How TO
its written for mandrake so you have to take it with a grain of salt
when cd 'ing into folders they are labeled a bit different in RH
use the "tab complete" ( type first two or three letters of the directory
- then the tab key to see if that is infact a RH directory)
if it doesnt complete back up a bit and "ls" to see where the next logical place for the directory to go
example:
#9 says
Now copy the new modules into the modules directory
cp scanner.o.gz /libs/modules/2.4.18-8.1mdk/kernel/drivers/usb
2.4.18-8.1mdk is a mandrake kernel version RH wont know what to do there
so cd into
/libs/modules/
ls
see where the branch should be
cd /usr/src/linux-2.4.20-20.9/drivers/usb/
and take your time
this is the fun part
EDIT: oh yea mine has a bit of an Idenity crisis
$ scanimage -L
device `epson:/dev/usb/scanner0' is a Epson CC-570L flatbed scanner

If turning the Epson off and then back on again doesn't correct it then try the following (I did this once when it would stop responding and it has worked since):
1. Turn printer (Epson) off.
2. Shutdown computer.
3. unplug USB cable from back of computer
4. boot up computer and login to Linux
5. shutdown computer again.
6. Plug USB cable back in and leave printer (Epson) off.
7. Boot up computer but don't login.
8. Turn printer on and let it cycle.
9. When done cycling, login and it should work fine.
I'm not sure how many of the above steps are really unnecessary but I have them on a cheatsheet next to my comp in case it happens and my wife needs to use when I'm not at home.
