end trace error
Hi all,
I successfully installed x86_64 8.10 Ubuntu yesterday on my new system. I had it installed and working, and then I went to bed and left my it on over night and when I woke up this morning it was a black screen with an error on it that says: [ 0.004000] [<fffffffffff80720140>] [ 0.004000] [ 0.004000]---[ end trace 4eea2a86a8e2da22 ]--- I had a lot of trouble getting the OS installed and the solution was to take all the RAM sticks out but one... those are the last 3 lines of output. could the fact that the line preceding the error doesnt have anything next to it indicate there is a problem with the RAM? specs: MSI k9a2 platinum mainboard geforce 6600gt 4x 1gig ddr2 pc5300 ram 1T HDD AMD Phenom x4 cuadcore processor anyone have an idea? edit: My windows xp wont start either which reallllllllly makes me think this is a hardware prob edit2: I did the memtest at the grub boot loader and its a sea of red and errors... do I have the wrong type of RAM or is just busted? How do i know which is the bad stick? |
I guess you could take out half the ram and then run the memtest again. Then keep dividing and testing til you narrow down the dodgy one.
