End kernal panic-not syncing: attempted to kill idle task
Welcome to LQ.
There isn't enough information in your post.
Please click the first link in my signature, read all of it (possibly also links going out from there), then try again.
Actually I haven't seen that precise error before. Usually it's an attempt to kill init. We really need to see the block of lines leading up to this panic. In

tags please. Also when did it occur? During boot or later?
A brief search found this post on some forum somewhere else:
Quote:
I found this problem when running VirtualBox under Windows 7 x64, and tried many solutions without any result.
The only workaround that solved my problem was the following:
• Enter to machine settings
• Select the Storage option
• Check "Use Host I/O Cache" for the virtual disk controller
• Test and error: enable and disable "Eable PAE/NX", "Enable VT-x/AMD-V" and "Enable nested paging"
• Start the machine
I also don't know what "Attempted to kill the idle task" means – I guess you could search the kernel source for it. Nor why an attempt to kill a system task would be grounds for a panic versus simply declining to do it. Again there's a fair chance that it really means, "it could not be started."
