Unhappy Enabling ATA 133 support under mandrake 8.2

Hi all. I have tried to patch the kernel with the provided patch from (It is for the via 8233a chipset on a gigabyte ga7vkml m/board) I keep getting ext3 error messages after the patch is installed and then a kernel panic message try passing initrd= to the kernel. Is lilo the problem? I have read the instructions several times and it still doesn't work. Anyone out there willing to help. thanks.
