Emesene Directory Issues

Anybody know why I can't copy and paste to the /usr/share/emesene/smilies/ directory?

I can do it through the console, but even if I do that, I can't view the files inside the destination folder once copied meaning Emesene can't use them.

Have you found out what the permissions are on the directory?

The brute force solution would be to change ownership of the directory and all files under it from root to yourself:
sudo chown -R udi:udi /usr/share/emesene/smilies

You can also give the whole world read+write permissions to that directory:
sudo chmod -R a+rw /usr/share/emesene/smilies
