Emergency : accidently deleted my user directory

I am using Fedora 7, with gnome.
I accidentally , while in root mode, deleted the folder containing my account
Specifically:
/home/vassos
Everything is lost now???

I tried just creating the directories again and naming them exactly with the same names as before. But the directories came up empty.
I really have to know if there is a way of restoring my files , there were many many important things there...
please help

Assuming you didn't back these files up anywhere else, I'd say everything is gone :(

One thing you can do is stop using the disk and take it to professionals who may be able to recover the data. Such accidents are an example of why most people say you should stay clear of using the root account and when you have to use it, take great care.

Don't do anything that would write to the disk---including making new directories. In principle, the data is recoverable. There many utilities around, or you can take it to a professional.

If the data is really valuable, then I would consider cloning the drive before doing anything else.

Yes by all means clone the drive first. to recover your data try testdisk its on the SystemRescueCD
