Emailing, easy one this

Right i have an email server configured with postfix, ill spare you the details on it for now but basically i am tryng to use outlook as the client, Now it works if i type into the email set up the IMAP server and SMTP server to connect to as 192.168.1.12.my-example.org.uk
but it doesnt work if i typed in mail.my-example.org.uk

i have a local DNS to route it thro, and its working fine since i can get it one way, but not this way.... is this something to do with the netbios name of the machine? how can i change it to the name of mail and not the ip address of the email server???

this must be dead easy to do im sure...... someone must know, i bet its one line in one file or one command isnt it??

Thanks,

Steve

If I remember postfix config, it requires every hostname you want it to work as to be written directly in your config file. Add the mail. hostname.

I found the solution to it, but it wasnt as was suggested because the postfix file already has that entry for my servername.my-domain.com
For your information though, i had to edit the smb.conf file and have this entry in it
netbios name = mail

and then start the smb deamon.
