Unhappy email with "mail" help

Hrm, just registered for this msg board cause I hoped it would help with some of my frustration. Anyway, I received an email on a shellbox! ( ;/) And now I must reply to it. I guess I made the mistake of using mail but anyway, when I hit R, I get the field where you enter the text to reply to the msg (of course), and so once I'm done typing my lil email, how to I send it and get back to the shell? I tried man mail but it's always overcomplex on what it tries to help with. Btw, what may help a little is if I knew what an End-of-file was ;/ it a tilde escape or something? A ridiculously ignorant post, but maybe you bigtime linux gurus can show some of your magic and just answer it and leave it as a humurous afterthought? =D Heh, any responses that's helpful would be much appreciated :/. Thanks!

You can just type a '.' (period) on a blank line and it will exit.
