Unhappy email internet operating with Linux ?

Hello everyone, I am new to forums and have not had any hands on at all with Linux. My questions are

with Linux as the OS does this pose problems with connecting to the internet?
how does email operate outside the Microsoft system?
Ubunto is this the best way to start for an absolute Linux novice?

Thanks - look forward to hearing from the dedicated but have to admit the number of questions being asked is a bit daunting.

Welcome to LQ

1 ) Depends on your hardware and your connection type

2 ) Email is not a microsoft system. Sending/receiving mail to/from windows users is no problem and works the same way as in windows

3 ) Some say it is, but I will leave that for Ubuntu person to answer

In any case, get a supporting handbook to whatever Linux distribution you choose.

Neither email nor web browsing (even Flash) nor playing MP3s, watching movies, printing, wlan networking or downloading stuff poses a problem with Linux as long as your hardware is "the usual stuff".

Nevertheless, be prepared to learn.
