For years I have had an Microsoft email application that I could use very easily.

Then a few weeks I switched operating systems to Ubuntu 12.6.

Then a few days ago my email operating system all of a sudden became Outlook which really is not working very well.

In Systems it says Thunderbird in installed, how do I make it start operating in Ubuntu?

If you press Alt+F2 then when the box opens type thunderbird, When you have it open you can add it to the side panel, then you will only need click on it
