You should just be able to use "yum install emacs" ...
If that doesn't work, have a look on the media in the
Server directory ... if you find the rpms for emacs
and xaw3d, rpm -i emacs-<mumble>.rpm

Cheers,
Tink

So I did get an iso of RHEL5 but still did not resolve the issue.

After initiating the install of emacs from the iso, it comes up with complains about needed dependencies after dependencies so on...

So now I am still stuck!

Can anyone please help me out or suggest another solution?

Thanks!

My apologies, I didn't mean to send you of to get
a RH5 iso. Of course you'd need to use one that
matches your installed version of RHEL, otherwise
you'd need to update the whole OS, basically.

Haven't seen an error like that - are you firewalled
or behind a proxy or something?

No proxy setup.

We have firewall in our corporate network.

However I can yum to other machines fine...

Can you compare the yum.conf on those machines with the broken one?

Did a search on yum.conf and found multiple entries:
/usr/share/logwatch/default.conf/logfiles/yum.conf
/usr/share/logwatch/default.conf/services/yum.conf
/usr/share/man/man5/yum.conf.5.gz

Which one is by default should i be looking at?

Thanks!

In that case that machine is seriously broken, and you
probably want to find professional assistance with
fixing it, unless you have heaps of time at your hands
and solving issues one by one as we go is not a probelm.

Not that I'm the best resource for RH specific questions,
even though I do have to deal with RH machines at work
at the moment.

Cheers,
Tink
