Emacs colour schemes on Raspberry Pi

Hi there,

I have emacs installed on my raspberry pi, but I am assuming that it is a stripped down version as I don't seem to have any different colour themes installed. The one I use on my mac is Wheatgrass, however I have no idea how to install it if it doesn't come native.

Where can I get them as the default emacs is very ugly and a little harsh on my eyes.

Kind regards
iFunk

Assuming you're using raspbian, it's in the emacs common lisp package on other arches.

Not much is stripped down on the pi. You're probably lacking a package or two. Or are not too happy with the defaults. Are you using the gui or the terminal based mode of emacs? Also X runs in 16 bit color depth on the pi's.

$ export TERM=xterm-256color
$ emacs -nw <file>

Is what I tend to like. At least for looking at code with light text on a dark background.

$ xterm -fg rgb:aa/aa/aa -bg rgb:00/00/00

You might also try the Droid Mono or Neep font. Being the curmudgeon that I am I've converted some old CGA era fonts for my xterm. With customizations, extra pixel padding on top and bottom for an 8x10 pixel bitmap font. But basically THIN_SS.F08 and VGA-ROM.F08 from fntcol16.zip. The extra padding helps with clarity and fits nicely on screen sizes that end in 0.

in debian: package emacs24-common
contains: /usr/share/emacs/24.4/etc/themes/wheatgrass-theme.el

So...

$ emacs -nw -l /usr/share/emacs/24.4/etc/themes/wheatgrass-theme.el <FILE>

I'd assume raspbian has most of the same stuff. But my pi isn't really hooked up right now.

Hi guys, thanks for your input, I found the problem, as I was using Raspbian Wheezey before, and that comes with Emacs 23 which doesn't include these packages. Raspbian Jessie on the other hand does come with Emacs 24 so all is now solved. thanks again for your feedback.

Kind regards
