hi, I am trying to upgrade my skype, and it asks me which of the following distributions I have:

Ubuntu 8.10+ 32-bit
Ubuntu 8.10+ 64-bit
Fedora 10+
OpenSUSE 11+
Dynamic
Static
Debian Lenny

I run Elyssa. which one of the above distributions do I fall under?

None of those. Linux Mint 5 i.e Elyssa is based on Ubuntu Hardy 8.04.

And do you see that you are running an old version? Linux Mint 9 Isadora is in RC stage now and it is based on Lucid. You should plan your upgrade now.

This is Linux *not* Windows.

an older version of a Linux O/S is good for some years,
without any need to upgrade.

if the OP is happy with the way the older O/S is,
there is NO Need to UPgrade at all.

Elyssa is a LTS as well.

With old releases, OP will not receive any updates. Many of these updates are necessary and termed critical. Its better to upgrade. Prevention is better than cure. Even with Linux system, nobody is foolproof safe.
