Editing of any file in /etc directory will disturb our root login?

Hi All,

Is there any files available(in /etc dir.) to deny our root login if we edit them?
If yes, Can you tell me what are those files and what entry make them to not allow.

Please help me to know this.

Thanks in advance!!!

/etc/security/access.conf

Or use the usermod program to lock out root, which prepends an exclamation point before the password hash in /etc/shadow. I think this is what Ubuntu does.

Be careful you don't totally lock yourself out. You might want to have root logged into a terminal before making the changes and then not log out until after testing.

Please read "man access.conf" and "man usermod" first.
