edit gnome shortcuts

Is there a way to edit properties of gnome desktop shortcuts?
Right-click, properties only allows me to change name, permissions and notes. I would like to be able to change the 'target' and 'start in' fields as windows allows.

i'm thinking you would need to create a new shortcut for that or maybe it can be done in the gconf-editor but be warned, changing stuff in there can break things.

That is gnome desktop 2.4 bugs. YOu can drag the shortcut to panel then edit it. Then drag back to desktop. Or you can edit the files in the console using text editor like this:
vim /home/yourbeautifulname/Desktop/blabla.desktop

BIG WARNING: Don't edit the files by icon it self in desktop. I mean don't right click the shortcut, then open with text editor. You will never again could use the shortcuts.
