How do I get this Edgeport usb to serial x 4 to work with Linux Mint 14? Plugged it into Windows 7, all OK, into same PC with Linux Mint 14, no go. Normal Hardware serial port on PC works fine.. I am new to Linux. Help much appreciated..

According to the website the devices are supported. Is there any indication from the output of the dmesg command that the device is recognised and serial port devices are created i.e ttyUSB0? Also post the output of the lsusb command. Hopefully this might indicate the chipset used by the converter.

Looks the device is ready to go.

I still can't see these ports with the Navigation program I use.. (Opencpn).. It only sees the hardware serial port /dev/ttyS0 . Also, the Edgeport shows flashing red light, when it is connected, it is green.

Any ideas?

I would try to see If the ports work with minicom. You should be able to see the GPS messages since they are regular text messages.

Does that application force the user to use tty0?

No, it allows you to select any available port..

I will try minicom, but, as the Edgeport is showing red, it is not initialised, therefore it should not work..
