I wanna Daul-Boot XP and Linux on my Acer Aspire 5100 with a broadcom wifi minipci card.

I need a linux that is easy to intstall and easy to setup boot with windows. Also needs to be able to detect hardware so that i get the most out of my system. I would like it to have Wine already installed.

Please post what you think would me my criteria.

what is the best free distro

If you want a free Linux, try Ubuntu! Installation is a breeze and will find Windows and add it to GRUB. Ubuntu also has if not the best, close to the best hardware detection. Ubuntu has found hardware on my system that even Windows couldn't find [modem & wifi card].

The only thing you will have to do is install Wine yourself. This is very easily done through apt-get or synaptic....if you need any help with that let me know!

I hope that helps!

Thanks for the feed back. This is why i like the linux community better then windows.

Even thou windows has so many problems not many places are like this where you can get help.

If I have a problem in windows im basicly looking for every bit of information on my own, while here people are here to help.

Thanks.

opensuse x86_64 will work acording to the hcl. You will need firmware for the broadcom card though (no matter what distro you go with), and if you use WEP/WPA you may be better off with ndiswrapper for wifi(depending on how close to your ap you are) as there are power problems with the 4318.
