Earphone not working


I am using dell vostro 1088 ,my earphones are not working.When i plug in the earphones , sound continues coming out of speakers.I had tried different earphones as well.Can anyone please help me???????

Your profile suggests that you are using a RedHat distribution. Can you confirm this and give details of the version and the kernel version? An older version may have problems supporting your hardware.

i m using RHEL 6
and my kernel version is 2.6.32-131.0.15.el6.i686

I am not familiar with RHEL 6, but maybe you need to update your alsa package, so that the kernel module options will work. http://www.gossamer-threads.com/list...ms/devel/15343

i had installed alsa-driver, but there are few problems:
firstly) alsa-driver compatible with my current kernel version is not available
secondly) i had installed an alsa-driver compatible with previous version usiing nodeps but it seems to be of no use

From what I can see, the alsa package available at the link in post #7 in the previous link I gave should work for you.

hi.
this is just the alsa-kmdl , this is not helping the cause.
and no alsa-driver compatible with this version is available online..

its the driver problem , google for drivers and/or reinstall the existing ones , similar things had happened to my laptop . . . . .
