thanks to all who helped with my prior post, part of my issues were fixed, and i have learned some of what i need to do,and found some good resources for help.i REALLY am having trouble getting Kmail to do anything.
"You need to add an account in the network section of the settings in order to receive mail." is my error message.i cant find where it wants me to give it the info it wants.
second issue, more of a question,is can some one explain how/why Linux installs patches, games(software),drivers etc the way it does?are there programs that can do this for me?or should i not be a lamer :P and do it the hard(until i learn it) way?also, can some one give the fast version of how command line works.i have d/l'd a few drivers etc,and cant find them to even attemp to install.i have the book "unix made easy" by John Muster, and i am learning some good stuff. can any one suggest a good book to help with my issues?dont get me wrong,i do check and search, but i do like to have a good paper(near stone age!!!LOL) book for reference purposes.it is driving me bonkers here, with simple downloads and installation being more difficult for me with the new and definately better linux :)
thanks for everything folks! have a great week!!!

you could check out apt-get for suse at:

http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/

once installed and configured it will handle downloading, installing and taking care of any dependencies the package might need...it makes handling packages a breeze, although, like you said, you really won't learn much about the inner-workings and stuff...something to think about!
