dvdrom problem
 

Hello,
i have a problem with my dvdrom, whenever i insert a cd or dvd..my computer freezes, i'm using slackware 12. What could be the problem?

My experience with a system freezing when inserting an optical disk into the drive indicates a drive failure or bad blocks on the disk. If all optical disks make the system freeze then your drive probably needs replacing. You can confirm it if you have another computer system you can swap out the drives to see if the problem occurs on the other computer.
