dvdrecord media (+rw -rw)

I'm preparing to buy a DVD recorder to perform backups using dvdrecord. I've been using cdrecord successfully, but I'd like to be able to hold more data on a single disc.

Does anyone know if dvdrecord works with +rw media, or -rw media, or does it even matter to the dvdrecord command set? The DVD drive I'm considering says it can work with either + or - media.

I would suspect it doesnt matter, however thats only a guess. I can tell you that it definately works with DVD -R
