DVD-writer s-ATA with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS ?

Hello, i have a DVD-RW S-ATA and cannot get read it.
Much less cant write.
I have ubuntu 10.04lts and was installed it from a dvd-rw BUT NOT S-ATA.
After, i change the ata dvd for a SATA dvdrw.
There are some problem in ubuntu 10.04 lts for recognize it?

When i insert a disk, sometimes read automatically, sometimes no....
I dont know... In folder /dev/ there are two folders, one is dvd1 ant the another is dvdrw1.

I was tryed to mount that on /mnt/dvd (previously i typed sudo mkdir dvd) and cant get mount that...

Some idea??

Pd: Im from Argentina, i dont know speak good english. Sorry!

Are you using the same DVD disks that you used on the PATA DVD drive? Are the DVDs that don't work made by a movie studio? I'm thinking of two possibilities.
1- The DVDs that don't work are in bad condition.
2- The DVDs are made by a movie studio and you are in the wrong region for the DVD or the DVD drive has the wrong region set inside it.

You can see if Linux has any problems seeing the drive by entering the following command in a terminal window.
grep -i dvd /var/log/messages
This is what mine looks like.
$ grep -i dvd /var/log/messages

You can see that I have a PATA DVD drive.
