I've recently re-installed Suse 10.1 as I want to start using Linux gain instead of Windows.
Even though all the codecs are installed (libxine libdvdcss and the win32 codecs) for some reason DVD playback skips (both audio and video). This happens in both VLC and Kaffine.
I have tried turning the DMA for the dvd drive to both off and on using the hdparm command in the console and that doesn't work. I have installed the latest version of libdvdcss.
I have also reset BIOS defaults but that did not solve the problem.
I have installed Linux from the same disk before and have had no problem what so ever with anything.
There have also been no changes to my machine at all except for a BIOS update a few months ago, although I don't think that would have affected it.
I've checked top, and the RAM and CPU usage is normal.
Come to think of it, I did make some hardware changes, but that was upgrading the RAM and buying a new DVD RW drive. Although I don't see how that could affect it.
