You'll have to give us more information.....What version of Linux? What media player? etc.

And Welcome to LQ!!

The system is ubuntu and the movie player is totem

pixellany 06-02-2010 10:41 PM

When you insert a DVD, what exactly happens? (Try it without totem running---just insert the DVD.)

pixellany 06-02-2010 10:44 PM

PS--What version of Ubuntu? e.g. 9.10, 10.4, etc.

Keystonerider82 06-02-2010 10:45 PM

when I insert the disk it automatically starts totem, it is the only movie player I have on here.

Where do I find out what version it is?

Take a look at some of these hits on Google---It sounds like you need to install some codecs:

http://www.google.com/search?q=totem...ient=firefox-a

Also, look in your package manager (Software center in Ubuntu?) for things relating to "video", "codec", or "totem".

I fugued out what version it is 10.4.

Well, where did you get it? You may find something by doing "ls | grep rel"

OOPs--Never mind....;)

Can someone give me any other options?

What about my suggestions to look for codecs? ....and the links I found in the Google search?

Keystonerider82 06-02-2010 11:17 PM

other options?

pixellany 06-02-2010 11:22 PM

Ahem---If you want good help here, you need to follow up on the suggestions people give you. Once again, how about my suggestions in post # 8?

Did you look for codecs with your package manager?

Did you read any of the links that Google found? (I thought some of them looked very relevant....)

Keystonerider82 06-02-2010 11:30 PM

obviously those options are not working other wise I wouldn't have asked for OTHER OPTIONS nevermind though I guess I will just wait tell my IT friend can help me figure it out.
