DVD playback performance
After fighting with packages and ./configure for 3 days, i reinstalled Yellow Dog Linux (Red Hat for ppc) with the "everything" package. Half of it i'll never need, but now at least it works.
But now, when i use ogle to play DVDs, it doesn't run smooth and it doesn't run at full resolution... So, what can i do to shut down stuff i don't need while playing back DVDs or what else could be the problem? |
Not really sure about ppc, but in a x86, I would check if using deinterlace in ogle. Also, check dma (is there such a thing in ppc?), which is important for high demanding apps.
This xine version can play dvd's, but its for x86. Perhaps these guys can give you some advice. http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/xine/ |
try doing:
hdparm -d1 /dev/dvd that will turn on UDMA so that playback is smooth and sound isn't choppy. good luck and have fun! |
