Dual layer DVD +/- rw drive issue

so i've got this snazzy Pioneer dual layer 16x DVD +/- RW

i've never used it before, so i figured i'd break it in by downloading SuSE 9.3 (i'm using 9.2), burning it and installing it.

it looked like everything burned just fine... until i pull the DVD out and there were no signs that there was data on it. i put the disc back in and try to open it in konqueror, the icon says "cd recorder /dev/dvdrecorder"

when i try to open the DVD in konquror under my computer, i get the error that the drive wasnt mounted?

but when i check it in console, it says that the drive is mounted just fine...

then i tried to play a DVD in it, just to make sure that the drive was actually working
but Kaffeine says that it can't play DVD's for legal reasons? and it doesnt have the proper plug-ins

hmm

it doesnt seem like these .rpm's should be 4.1 GBs (the size of the iso image) and i dont know how to check to see if there are hidden files somewhere
