Searching this forum for 'what distro should I use' will undoubtably give you hundreds of answers to your question. We do not need another thread for this...

As for dual booting, you will need to free up space on your HDD for Linux. Make sure XP is installed correctly, then install linux. Configure a bootloader to dual boot.. The install should walk you through this.

hi there,

well i am a newbie too but i am using Red Hat 9.0, and its very effecient. I am having windows xp, win 98 and linux. All you have to do is just make sure that you have a partition for linux to install on. You may use the PArtion magic 6.0se from the windiws box in order to do so . Or else you can use any other software you wish to..

You can now install the linux easily on your system. It will recognize your partitions and also the os currently running, the installation of linux 9.0 is simple and effecient.

ok enjoy linux now...
