Dual CPU
Hi Folks,
Have a dual CPU set-up (AMD), and have installed Fedora core 1. A few questions: 1. How can I tell if both the CPU's are being used (assume I can initiate some number-cruncher which will run for a while)? 2. Does Fedora capitalize of dual CPU configuration? Does some other distribution do a "better" job? 3. Is it possible, as a user, to send different jobs to different CPU's? 4. Even though I have a 32-bit machine, at boot time why do I see a "i686" suffix? Many thanks for your replies.... zer0snr :study: |
1) From a command-line, run top . It will have a line or two at the top about the CPU usage. You can also check /proc/cpuinfo to make sure both CPUs are recognized.
2) Fedora will do a fine job of SMP. 3) Not sure. 4) Athlons and Durons are the same generation as Intel-686 chips (i686). Linux started on a 386 (i386), then came the 486 (i486), then the Pentium (i586), then the Pentium Pro and others after (i686). |
