Dual booting xp and redhat?
 

Ok i wanna partition a part of my drive for redhat 9.0. I have a 60gb hard drive ntfs formatted "came that way with comp". How can i create this partition, and what program should i use. Help needed badly.

well to create that partition(s) you need to have some free space on your hard drive (which doesn't belong to any partitions). it is best when you initially install Windows leaving lets say 10GB for RH9 partitions. after that start installation of RH9 and choose to use fdisk to create partitions manually. now create partitions you need on free space. when you are done you can install RH9.

Eventually you can use Partition Magic, but i have used it once and a long time ago so i can't help you here

you could use partition magic to shrink the windows partition before installing red hat...

but really IMHO the best thing for you to do would be to install mandrake linux instead of red hat... mandrake's super-friendly installer comes with a built-in partition re-sizer, so you wouldn't need to do anything special before the installation (besides a defrag and a scandisk, of course)...

the other reason why i would suggest mandrake is because red hat 9.0 has only a few more months of support left... i'm sure you heard by now about the change from red hat linux to fedora core, right?

personally, i wouldn't install something that i know won't be getting maintained after a few months...

I'd have to agree with win32sux, although if you are adamant about Red Hat, go with Partition Magic, I can help you out as far as settings go, that's how I installed my first Linux distro (funny enough, Red Hat :P).
