Dual Booting - Ubuntu
 

Hi there, I've posted recently about getting ready to dual boot with xp/ubuntu 6.10 I've downloaded the graphical install version and booted up the system (I'm actually writing this post from it) however I'm stuck and in need of help.

I have the following set up.

Disk 1
Partition 1 - Windows.
Partition 2 - NTFS formatted (This is the one that I want linux to go on)
Disk 2
Partition 1 - Storage space.

How do I tell ubunutu to install on partition 2 of disk 1? and how do I go about setting that partition up, because there are lots of flags and i'm not sure what to tick.

I had a look at installation guides but got confused, a step by step graphical one would be most helpful but good written instructions would be too.

I think you have to tell him you want a manual partitioning (not difficult at all : the tool looks like partition magic)

You have to select disk hda (if you're IDE) and it should show current partitioning scheme ... Right click on hda2 (the NTFS partition ... If it's not hda2, no panic, it's cool) and delete the partition (make sure you have backup everything ...)

Then create an ext3 partition which takes all the place of the previous NTFS except for 512Mb ...
Another partition goes for swap

It's a good idea to write somewhere the "linux name" of your partitions : it something like /dev/hda2

Sorry realised you already answer my question so i'll edit this have a slightly different question though.

when you say swap, I don't have swap in my drop down menu I have linux-swap? Is that the correct choice?
