Dual Boot XP Fedora 4 with 3 disks
 

I am a newbie to Linux and I am not that good with Windows (BG keeps moving things around). I'm at wits end. I have read the FAQ's and Red Hat installation guide and tried everything that I can find in the Fedora installer (anaconda) to get my XP system up and running in FC4. The installation goes as expected in FC4, but when I reboot the system, it goes to XP only. It runs to the XP loader and gives me options to load different OS versions and a timeout, so I am making it to XP loader (ntloader?). I have a 38G Windows boot/OS drive ("C" or hda) and a 300G Windws User drive ("D" or hdc) and a 300G Linux drive ("E" or hdd). Drive mapping in Windows is C, D, and DVD as drive E is Linux ext3 formatted.
I have instructed Linux installer to place GRUB on hda and I have also tried hdc and hdd. At no point have I been offered the option of booting into Fedora 4.
Can anyone offer insight into how to make a three disk system a dual boot system?

Well, for Windoes, that would be C and for Linux, I have tried hda, hdc and hdd. The disk hdd is where FC4 is placed.

OK, hdd could mean just about anything. Go to BIOS settings (since you got nothing to lose) and try to figure out which one is it (hd0, hd1 or what?) and set it to the first bootdisk. And then maybe grub will show up.

You have a server, BTW? How did you get three disks there?

OK, gotcha,
hd0 = 38G = Windows boot, This is where I want GRUB loader installed.
hd1 = 300G = Windows User, this is a non boot disk
hd2 = 300G = Linux disk. All of Fedora is loaded on this disk.

I use to have 7 disks, but a power glich took out my 29160N, so now I only have EIDE. I also have SATA ready mainboard, but have not heard anything about SATA being as fast as SCSI so I'll wait.

In Anaconda, I map the disks as in the BIOS, 38G=hd0, first 300G=hd1, second 300G=hd2. I instructed anaconda to place GRUB on hd0, but when I reboot, nothing.

I'd say I'm having one of those days, but it has been going on for months.

What does this mean ??? *exactly*.
You didn't happen to select XP as your default during the install ???.
Wonder if it is getting to grub, then timing out immediately, and proceeding to boot.ini.
Probably has "hiddenmenu" as well ... sheesh !!!
I'd try hitting <ESC> as soon as it has booted - don't know if you can show the menu, but it might be an indication.

Then I'd boot the first FC CD, and get to recovery mode. Should be able to look at the grub.conf/menu.lst from there.
Can't tell you how, as the last time I looked at Redhat was RH9 - somebody else should be able to help.

Hum, I made a bootable DVD from the FC4 .iso file, so I do not have a recovery disk. Looks like I will get one of those small floppies and install the hardware and play around with it that way.
