no I did not get a list of operation systems. Is ther another flavor of linux that would be easier to do this with. I am really starting to get sick of this. I have been using linux for a while and am very frustrated that I can't get this to work.

I have hated the Fedora Core system forever, but that is just my take on things. Many people here use and even love it. I haven't tried to install a dual boot system in over 2 years, and haven't done one for myself in 4.

You certainly could try another distro, but you may want to wait on a grub expert, somebody like Saikee who uses grub to boot something like 150 systems off one drive. It does sound to me like some screw up at the installer level, but without being there to see it I can't be certain.

Peace,
JimBass

ok installing it again and am going to try the basic grub setup instead of the advanced. If this does not work is there anything else that anyone could suggest.

still not working

I just reinstalled FC and again it looks like Fedora is not getting the grub loader onto the windows hard drive. Will boot right to windows and am not getting grub to load up

I am reinstalling linux right now, when I'm done do I still modify the menu.lst file?

Again, when I had these problems, I always did the advanced install of Grub, and chose to put it on the MBR of the first hard drive, and I wouldn't have a problem. Any other way, and I always got Grub 17.

Don't know if this helps any...

If you're looking to install another distro, I'd wholeheartedly recommend Ubuntu. It is by far my fav, or if you prefer the KDE interface, Kubuntu. I don't care for KDE, but different strokes for different folks, if you like it, Kubuntu is a good distro also. Screenshots are on the links below..

I don't have quite the disdain for Fedora Core that Jim Bass has, but installing Ubuntu has always been easier for me. Not to mention, it has a live mode you can run off the DVD before you install.

Edit: By the way, if you go Ubuntu/Kubuntu, stick with 6.10 Edgy Eft. Its the most recent, and I doubt you want to be dealing with the problems of 7.04 Feisty Fawm as its still in beta..

finially

I installed Ubuntu and it worked on the first try. I'm not sure whats wrong with fedora and grub, but it seems that a lot of other people are having troubles with it as well. I am familiar with Ubuntu so this is not a major problem.

Thank You for all the time that everyone has spent trying to fix this with me.

Our pleasure man! Enjoy the Debian child, and I hope the multiple failed installs haven't ruined your experience.

Peace,
JimBass
